Hotel Monroe Star Bar — Rooftop Steel & Planters

The Hotel Monroe is a freshly renovated and restored historic property in downtown Monroe — and its rooftop bar, the Star Bar, overlooking downtown, needed something special. Designer Christy Echols had an amazing vision for the bar's outdoor space, and she came to Jackson Magee to bring it to life. Over a few visits with Christy and her team, the design took shape — then it was on us to make it real.

The walls of the rooftop space are planters backed by artistic patterns matched to the paintings inside the bar. We cut those patterns from steel with our fiber laser, powder coated them black, and set powdered gold sheets behind the cutouts as backdrops. The planters themselves were designed and built with heavy bracing structures and tie-downs to keep high winds from blowing them off the rooftop.

Getting there was half the job. Transporting thousands of pounds of steel to a rooftop without damaging the roofing materials was a challenge in itself — and we worked with the engineers to make sure we didn't void any roof warranties. Every pound had to be planned: how it goes up, where it sits, and how it stays put.

Scope: Custom steel planters with laser-cut artistic panels, powder coated black with gold backdrops; structural bracing and tie-downs; rooftop transport and install coordinated with engineers. What we handled: Design collaboration, fabrication, finishing, and installation — one crew, start to finish.

The Star Bar remains one of our most cherished projects, and we're proud to have been a part of it. If your project needs custom metalwork with an eye for design — not just a sign on a wall — call (318) 614-6909 or request a quote. We respond to every quote request within one business day.
